Alicia Day, LPC, ACS

Founder, Waves of Change Counseling and Healing

I help high-achieving adults who feel overwhelmed beneath the surface break free from chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, and self-pressure so they can feel more grounded, emotionally connected, and able to move through life without constantly operating in survival mode

Many of the clients I work with are outwardly functioning well. They are successful, responsible, capable, and often the people others rely on. But internally, they may feel exhausted, emotionally disconnected, anxious, stuck in cycles of overthinking, or weighed down by experiences they have never fully had space to process.

Some clients come to therapy after years of “pushing through” stress, trauma, or emotional pain without slowing down long enough to recognize the impact it has had on their nervous system, relationships, confidence, or sense of self. Others are navigating burnout, high internal pressure, depression, or the lingering effects of emotional, physical, or sexual trauma while trying to maintain the appearance that everything is fine.

My work focuses on helping clients slow down safely, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and develop healthier ways of coping that create meaningful and sustainable change—not just temporary survival.

I provide telehealth therapy throughout New Jersey for adults seeking thoughtful, trauma-informed care grounded in both emotional insight and practical support.

My Approach

Wave of Change Franklinville

I provide evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy tailored to the individual needs of each client.

My work integrates:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Person-Centered Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

I approach therapy through both a clinical and relational lens—understanding that meaningful change happens not only through insight, but through feeling emotionally safe enough to explore experiences honestly and build new ways of coping.

With experience across inpatient, outpatient, school-based, and community mental health settings, I bring a broad perspective to supporting clients across different stages of life and levels of emotional need.

At the core of my work is the belief that therapy should help people not only manage symptoms, but reconnect with themselves in a more authentic, grounded, and sustainable way.

What Its Like to Work with Me

My style is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in real-life application. Therapy with me is not about judgment or forcing change before you are ready—it is about creating a space where you can finally stop “holding it all together” long enough to understand what you actually need.

Many of my clients are deeply self-aware and high-functioning, yet still feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, emotional shutdown, over-responsibility, or internal pressure that are difficult to break alone. Together, we explore both the deeper roots of these patterns and the practical tools needed to create change in everyday life.

Sessions balance emotional processing with actionable support. Some days therapy may focus on understanding trauma responses, relationship dynamics, or burnout; other days may center on emotional regulation, coping skills, boundaries, or learning how to respond differently to stress and self-criticism.

My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, more emotionally regulated, and more capable of navigating life without constantly feeling overwhelmed or depleted.
