David Hancock, LAC
Supervised by Ashlyn Rost, LPC, ACS
I help individuals who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, anxious, or weighed down by grief learn how to better understand their emotions, build confidence, and feel more in control of their lives.
Many of the clients I work with are trying to hold everything together while feeling exhausted inside. Some struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, or low self-esteem. Others feel disconnected, misunderstood, or unsure how to manage strong emotions like anger, sadness, or stress. I also work with individuals and families navigating grief and loss—whether from the death of a loved one, major life transitions, or changes in important relationships. Grief can feel isolating and overwhelming, and I strive to create a space where you do not have to carry it alone. My goal is to help you process these experiences at your own pace while finding ways to move forward without feeling rushed or pressured. I provide telehealth therapy throughout New Jersey and work to create a supportive, comfortable space where clients can open up gradually, feel genuinely heard, and begin to make sense of what they’re going through.

My Approach
I take a personalized, client-centered approach to therapy and draw from evidence-based practices including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Motivational Interviewing
I also incorporate mindfulness-based techniques to help clients build emotional awareness, regulate intense feelings, and feel more grounded in their daily lives. With experience working with survivors of violent crimes, I bring a strong understanding of trauma and its impact on both individuals and families. My work focuses on helping clients process difficult experiences while building resilience, emotional safety, and healthier coping strategies.
What It’s Like to Work with Me
Therapy with me is supportive, collaborative, and paced around your comfort level. I focus on creating a space where you can show up as you are—without pressure, judgment, or expectations. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions and difficult experiences, while others may involve building coping skills, improving communication, or working through specific challenges step by step. I aim to meet you where you are and help you move forward in a way that feels manageable and real. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling more understood, more grounded, and better equipped to navigate your day-to-day life.

Ready to take the next Step?
Reaching out for support can feel difficult, especially if you’re used to handling things on your own. My goal is to make therapy feel approachable, supportive, and manageable from the very beginning. If you’re considering therapy, I welcome the opportunity to connect and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
