Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern | Stockton University
Helping individuals navigate anxiety, self-doubt, emotional challenges, and meaningful life changes.
Carly Girgenti is a second-year Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Stockton University, currently completing her clinical internship at Waves of Change Counseling & Healing as she works toward becoming a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC).
Carly was drawn to the counseling profession by her passion for helping others create meaningful, positive changes in their lives. She believes that everyone deserves a space where they feel heard, understood, and supported, especially during times when life feels overwhelming or uncertain.
With a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental approach, Carly strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are. She recognizes that beginning counseling can feel intimidating and believes individuals do not need to have everything figured out before taking that first step.

My work incorporates:
Mindfulness-based strategies
Person-Centered Therapy
Emotional regulation skill-building
Strengths-based approaches
Developmentally appropriate coping strategies
With nearly 10 years of experience in K–12 school settings, I bring a strong understanding of the academic, emotional, and social pressures students face both inside and outside the classroom. This experience allows me to support clients not only emotionally, but also within the broader context of school expectations, peer relationships, family stress, and developmental changes.
I focus on helping young people build resilience, improve self-confidence, and develop practical tools that help them feel calmer, more emotionally regulated, and more capable in their daily lives.
Who I Work With
I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and older adults, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. I have a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, overthinking, persistent or ruminating thoughts, depression, low self-esteem, and challenges with self-confidence.
I am also interested in supporting individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harming behaviors within an appropriately supervised clinical setting.
I especially enjoy working with individuals who are ready to explore positive changes in their emotional well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life. I also welcome those who may feel hesitant about counseling but recognize that something in their lives needs to change.
